Every BV practice leader wants to hire that rare thoroughbred who will elevate the team. How do you increase your chances of hiring someone who is truly extraordinary, rather than someone who simply looks the part?
You can find the answer to that and lots of other questions in the pages of “Secrets for Hiring Right,” by Mike Lejeune. In his book, Lejeune leads readers through the forest of ideas for creating a successful hiring process.
Lejeune’s starting point centers on hiring by building a “blueprint for success” and not merely a job description. He devotes multiple chapters to the interview process and how to use it to uncover those elements of a candidate’s background and experience which lead to a better hiring decision. He gives examples of creative questions to get answers you can use.
Practice leaders thinking of hiring for remote roles should pay attention to Mike’s chapter on that process. According to Lejeune, “The key to making remote work successful isn’t just allowing employees to work from home; it’s about selecting the right people for the job.”
There is a common misperception, he points out, that a great in-office worker will automatically be a great remote worker. As one of his clients put it, though, “An excellent employee who is highly productive in the office will normally be productive in a remote setting. There is a guarantee that an unproductive employee in the office will not be successful working from home.”
Mike Lejeune has had successful careers in executive search, consulting, and public speaking. “Secrets for Hiring Right” is available through most online booksellers.
