Competing for quality talent is every practice leader’s challenge. Smaller market practices have a secret weapon.
Talented finance grads are coming out of the colleges and universities in your area. You can attract the best by positioning yourself as the employer of choice. Business valuation appeals to a certain subset of the universe of finance grads everywhere. How do you take advantage of that?
If you haven’t done it already, make friends with the finance professor(s). Offer to speak to a class or a club. Give visibility to your profession and your practice.
Offer a rotating internship. If you’re able to eventually hire the person, great. Even if you don’t, the word will get out that your practice is an interesting place to work and learn.
If you have graduates from local schools already on your payroll, use them and their connections. It would be hard to find a better ambassador.
Don’t expect overnight results. This is a multi-year effort. With a little bit of effort on the front-end, however, the payoff can be that you are considered the employer of choice, and that good candidates come knocking on your door.
