Interviewing and hiring are a reality in a successful practice. You may not do it…

I have hired my share of BV/LS staff. It is never easy. It gets even harder with candidates who have that ‘sort-of-but-not-quite’ experience. I want to tell you about an assessment tool that can help.
I was in a hiring mode because practice revenues were solid, and I needed help more regularly than on-again, off-again staff from audit or tax. I also wanted to hire from the local market. We attracted a candidate with strong educational credentials, a financial analytical background, and valuation experience in smaller and more narrowly-framed engagements than I have.
The Borrowman Baker BV Candidate Assessment turned out to be just what I needed.
My candidate did the assessment online, and I got a report that gives me the insight I wouldn’t have had otherwise. Then, I gave an Excel skills test and a writing assignment, which were timed. I could tell by the way the results came in from both that the assessment was on the mark about the candidate’s pace of work.
The report gave us a level of comfort that we were hiring a desirable candidate. We crafted an offer with a short-term pay raise for hitting certain milestones related to pace. He has accepted and will start soon.
