It’s an ill wind that blows no one any good. So, we can thank Uncle Covid for nudging BV into more remote work. It seems to be working well for lots of professionals. What’s not to like?
Many practices have adjusted well. Before the pandemic, so much of your work was done at the computer screen even at the office. It didn’t seem to be a big deal for that screen time to happen outside the office. There’s a hidden career danger, though, that most professionals overlook.
You’ve probably noticed that the route to the top in leadership and pay means evolving from a doer to a seller-doer. (This is true for consulting services, generally.) And if you are remote from the “mother ship,” you won’t get the coaching, mentoring, and hand-holding that 95% of professionals need to complete that path.
You might think this wouldn’t be a bad arrangement. If your role is production, though, sooner or later, there is a pay cap that you will hit.
